Transfers from Ponta Delgada Airport

Transfers to other Azores islands

There are two options for those who want to transfer to one of the other Azores islands.

  • Plane – There are airports on all of the islands, although not all islands can be reached through direct flight, you might have to connect via a flight to another island. Schedules are changed regularly, flights are often cancelled or delayed, but this flexibility is normal in the Azores so make sure to not plan too tight a schedule to leave room for flexibility.
  • Ferry – There are also ferry ports on all of the islands and for islands located close to each other it might be the quickest way to transfer, but it does depend on the schedule and time of year and weather. Just as with flying the schedules are changed regularly and not all islands can be reached from all other islands, you might have to change ferries. Ferry travelling does also take a longer time than flying, except for between islands that are closely located with more regular departures, but it is cheaper. The journey might be bumpy or smooth depending on the weather.
